The Center for Ethics exists to enrich moral imagination, to deepen knowledge of ethics, and to encourage lives of moral meaning and ethical practice. To further its mission, the Center: leads innovative, collaborative programs in the ethics of health science and care, scientific research, and leadership development in Emory’s undergraduate and graduate schools; initiates thoughtful public discussions of pressing ethical issues through forums, lectures, conferences, and publications; fosters new programs and organizations that share Emory’s vision for ethical teaching, research, and service; and develops faculty capacity for teaching and research in ethics throughout the university.

Basic Knowledge: Winship Cancer Institute
The Cancer Institute is comprised of six shared facilities providing high technology services which are open to clinicians and researchers throughout the Emory system. These shared facilities make possible for an entire campus that would be too costly or time consuming for any one department or hospital. The research conducted at the Cancer Institute facilities includes basic, translational and clinical research projects. Research programs which fall under the auspices of the Cancer Institute include Cancer Prevention, Oncology Clinical Research, Pediatric Oncology, Molecular Therapy, Immunology and Cancer Genetics. Membership of the Winship Cancer Institute is made up of over 200 Emory School of Medicine faculty members from a cross-section of disciplines.

Since its founding in 1974, Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R) has been committed to the advancement of strong research programs and to the consistent application of ethical precepts in both medicine and research. Through national conferences and published reports thereon, it has addressed a broad range of issues in biomedical and behavioral research, clinical practice, ethics, and the law.
